godddd that trend of having like a quote from a poem and then a lyric from a song and something from a book or movie all with a connected idea and theme make me go absolutely insane like we’re all just fucking humans trying to put words to this weird beautiful painful experience that were all going through and it all overlaps and we’re all going through it like you truly are not alone in the world it’s so comforting i’m transcending
if you remember that life is fluid you’ll never feel stuck. nothing is the end all or your only option. when something ends it’s your time to start something new. it doesn’t matter how often doors close if you’re always moving forward. don’t dwell or try to open those old doors. the more you keep moving, the more you’ll see life is working in your favor.
I want to try so many little hobbies. Candle making, soap making, basket weaving, wood carving, book binding, baking, weaving, I want to try them all.
I almost made a post about this the other day (unless i actually did and totally forgot) but there’s so many
I was going to make a list, but then i realized this is a good time to share this book
Making Stuff and Doing things is a whole collection of old punk DIY zines about making and doing just about anything, even things you probably never knew you wanted to do.
Book binding? In there.
Making bowls from old vinyl records? I made a whole ton for my brother’s grad party last year.
Basics of guitar? Making rubber stamps? Silk screening? Composting? Homemade beer, root beer, and wine? Soymilk?? Quill pens??? All in there.
Since it’s more punk, it doesn’t have a ton of the folksy, cottage vibes/hobbies, but it’s all about being resourceful and sustainable, which they both have in common.
If i ever need to do anything I’m not sure of, I double check this book to see if there’s anything in there. It’s one of the only books on diy I’ve ever needed.
when jenny slate said “i feel so sad when i feel unlovable, and for some reason, i have developed a deep internal reaction that’s like an emergency system that reaches for beauty and softness. and sometimes it is incredibly sad to reach for beauty and softness in a state of despair. but it is always there.“
It’s okay to not be an expert but enjoy keeping crystals in your pockets or stirring your tea clockwise as a morning ritual or having a regular witchy practice that looks like personal wellness more than ceremony and ritual.
Sometimes it leads to more: I learned to make sigils well over a year before I started studying witchcraft in earnest or getting to know my gods.
I personally think it’s important to be upfront about when you’re still learning something (we all are) and not spread misinformation, and be careful– magic can be capricious, and spirits and deities are their own beings with their own desires– but imo there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dipping your toes in a pool of knowledge and just hanging out at the edge.
